According to the Andrew Kukes Foundation for Social Anxiety explains that social anxiety is an intense fear of being judged by others and is characterized by the emotions of shame, humiliation and embarrassment. While it may seem that we all have this fear to some degree, sufferers of social anxiety are often unable to push past these emotions, causing them to avoid situations in their lives that trigger these feelings. When a fear leads to avoidance it is considered a phobia, which is why social anxiety is sometimes referred to a social phobia. Clinical research studies have shown that cognitive-behavioral therapy can produce great changes for those with the disorder. As a supplement to CBT, many people find some form of social skills training very helpful.
