The Migraine Disorders Diagnosis Information Page is a collaborative project of NeedyMeds and the Association of Migraine Disorders. It is intended to provide educational information and healthcare savings resources for those living with this diagnosis.

Migraine is a complex neurological disease that can cause symptoms through the whole body due to the impact it has on the nervous system. People with migraine have a nervous system that is not working normally. It overreacts to stimuli and, when stimulated, there is an unusual wave of brain activity that leads to a headache and other symptoms. Almost all migraine sufferers have a problem with part of the nervous system called the trigeminal nerve. Some common symptoms of migraine disease include chronic dizziness, ear pressure, facial pressure, nausea, and light/sound sensitivity. Internal or external stimuli, called triggers, can sometimes provoke a headache. There are at least six general categories of these triggers which include food, exercise, hormones, weather conditions, sensory stimulus and stress. Migraine disease can be treated when symptoms occur or by taking preventive daily medications to reduce the intensity or frequency of symptoms.
